The One Thing That Lasts Forever
Life as we know it is changing. Our world is shaking, shifting, and adjusting. Compare your life to January 2020 and you will remember a completely different world. After reading that stay at home order in March, I knew our lives would never be the same. Naturally, many of us are still reaching back for the “good old days” but we can never go back. God is shifting us into a new place. He is preparing us for something better than our past. Something exciting is on the way.
During these uncertain times, there is something that we can hold onto. There is a reason to be not just hopeful but excited! It doesn’t matter who wins the election. It doesn’t matter who has what agenda or plan; God laughs at the plans of the wicked (Psalm 37:12-13). His will prevails over the schemes of the nations and the elite. They will fail and pass away, but He has given us something immovable we can depend on. He has and is orchestrating something beautiful for His people. In Isaiah He said,
“All flesh (humanity) is grass,
And all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.
The grass withers, the flower fades,
Because the breath of the Lord blows upon it;
Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:6-11
Only Good News
The only thing that is going to last in the days ahead is the Word of God. His Word, His presence, and His voice will remain constant and true despite what we face in our lives. We should expect some challenging times to come on the earth. They have already begun, but this is actually GOOD news (2 Timothy 3:1)! Yes, this is GOOD NEWS! Why? Because Jesus said these things would take place before His coming (Matthew 24). Yes, friend, He is coming, and He is coming soon!! His appearance will come with this purpose: to set the world right once and for all. Justice is coming! Isn’t that what 2020 has been about?
His Promise
Truth, justice, reconciliation, and peace are what we want in the world, but God is the only one who can truly set things right. He has given me this scripture to share with you:
“Behold your God!”
Behold, the Lord God comes with might,
and his arm rules for him;
behold, his reward is with him,
and his recompense before him.
He will tend his flock like a shepherd;
he will gather the lambs in his arms;
he will carry them in his bosom,
and gently lead those that are with young.” Isaiah 40:10-11
He is coming to reward the righteous and bring judgment on the wicked. Jesus is going to lead those who love and serve Him, the Righteous Judge, into a place of eternal rest. Eternity is approaching, and there we will reign with Him forever. In the book of Revelation, God gave the Apostle John a clear message regarding Jesus’ return. He will come for His Bride and take us to a place with no more injustice, pain, sorrow, or tears – only love.
“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” Revelation 21: 3-4.
A Broken System
This life and world system is passing away. Our world is in decay. It is no coincidence that we have been crying out for justice. It is no coincidence that we feel like we can’t trust anything we read or see. The world around us is deteriorating. Governments are failing us, but God never will. We need Abba Father, the just Judge, to establish order once again in the world. Believe me, He will. Jesus said He would!
“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.” Revelation 22:12
Stay in Love
Our responsibility is to stay in love with Jesus and in the truth. God’s Word is the truth. Period. Even when people, governments, and leaders fail us – His Word and who He is never will. During these wild times, we must “..stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle” (2 Thessalonians 2:15). Holding fast to the Word of God will keep us stable as the winds of life blow. There will be much confusion and deception in the last days (2 Peter 3:3). This is why we must meditate on the Word, study scripture, and stay submitted to God’s authority.
There is much that will take place before His coming (Matthew 24). Those who read and love the Bible will see prophecy unfold before their eyes. Their faith will be strengthened as they see His Word fulfilled, but more than that they will know their Lover when He appears.
“…there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:8
